Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

The Poon Hill trek is the most popular trek of the Annapurna region. It is one of the most beautiful and short treks that offers one of the most amazing uninterrupted panoramic views of the Great Himalayan Range. Not only this we can also enjoy beautiful sunrise over the Himalayas from Poon Hill (3,210m) and it is one of the highlights of the Poon Hill trek.

Poon Hill trek is suitable for travellers from all ages. If you are traveling with your family and planning to do 4 - 5 days short trek, Poon Hill trek can be the best option for you. If you are traveling with your group of friends, Poon Hill trek is equally suitable for your group. The best time for Poon Hill trek is September to December and March to mid of June. If we trek during these months, we can experience the best of Poon Hill trek and enjoy the real beauty of the region as weather is clearer, the temperature is moderate, blue sky and views are very clear. It is possible to trek during the July - August but it is monsoon period and Poon Hill trek is not the best trek for monsoon period.

The beautiful 5 days Poon Hill Trek begin with an hour from Pokhara to Nayapul (1,010m) and we start our walk from here to village of Tirkhedhunga (1,525m). It is about 4 hours walk from Nayapul to Tirkhedhunga village where we stop for our overnight stay. Next day morning we continue our trek to Ghorepani village after the breakfast. It is a long day as we have to walk about 6 hours up-hill to reach Ghorepani village. It is a beautiful village, situated on the top of the hill and it offers the beautiful view of the mountains and landscapes.

This trekking region is rated best of the trekking in Nepal. The trekking in this region offers the best views from Poon Hill, dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys with unforgettable short journey, a great photographic site showing whole Annapurna, Dhaulagiri ranges and charming villages inhabited by Gurungs & Magars.

Day to day Itinerary

  • DAY 01: Arrival in Nepal - Hotel Transfer.

    Meet our representative at the airport who will transfer you to the Hotel. Hotel checking-in and go for sightseeing tour. Overnight in Kathmandu.


  • Day 02: Fly to Pokhara where our Poonhill Trek begins. Hike to Ulleri.

    This morning we take a flight to Pokhara, west of Kathmandu, where our trek begins. The Pokhara Valley offers a spectacular panorama of Nepal's central Himalayas with Annapurna South and Machapuchare dominating the skyline. A short drive to Nayapul. After you reach Nayapul, you will start your trekking slowly. After 20-minutes walking along the Modi stream, you will reach at Birethanti - a beautiful village that has plenty of tea shops and guest houses. Then follow the left route through the village. Your trek continue heading to Ulleri following the bank of the Burungdi stream. You will climb slightly up to the valley of Hile (1495 meters) and Tikhedhunga (1525 meters). The trail leads steep up to Ulleri (2073 meters), a large beautiful Magar village. Ulleri is stopping point for today. O/ n at mountain lodge.


  • DAY 03: Trek Ulleri to Ghorepani.

    After breakfast you start your walking. Today the trail leads you to the Ghorepani, one of the popular destinations of Annapurna region situated at an altitude of 2856 meters. You should gently ascend up to Banthanti (2250 meters) through Oak and rhododendron forest. Then continue trek towards Ghorepani through Nangeythanti (2460 meters). Today you will walk approximately 5 hours. O/ n at mountain lodge.


  • DAY 04: Visit Poonhill - Trek Ghorepani to Tadapani

    Early in the morning climb up to Poon Hill (3210 meters) to see the panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himalayan ranges as well as exciting sunrise view over the Himalayas. After experiencing the great views of Himalayan panorama from Poon Hill, you descend to Ghorepani. After breakfast, continue downhill trek to Tadapani (2625meter). The trail goes a long the ridges of rhododendron and pine forest till the Tadapani. O/ n at mountain lodge.


  • DAY 05: Trek Tadapani to Landruk

    Today the trail descends south of Ghandruk village. At the bottom of Ghandruk you can see traditional grindstone in small stream. The trail forks end of village take left hand down trail with paved stone staircases. The trail steep descend to Modi Khola through the small settlement terrace field rice paddy. Cross the iron bridge over the Modi Khola which is flowing from Annapurna Base camp. After crossing the bridge the trail steep ascend with stone staircase. After half an hour hard walking you reach to Landrung Village (1664m). Landrung is a big Gurung Village from here you see the view of Mt. Annapurna South and Mt. Himchuli. O/n at mountain lodge.


  • DAY 06: Trek Landruk to Pehdi - Pokhara.

    Wake up with sunrise in massive Annapurna south (7219m) and Himchili (6444m). One hour contour the valley. You will pass the large settlement and terraced fields and typical thatch houses. You will cross the Tigu Khola on a suspension bridge below the Tolkha. The trail 15m steep ascends to Tolkha village. The trail gradually ups and to the Beri Kharka. From Beri Kharka 50m ascends to Deurali(2100m). If clear day you can see Pokhara valley from here. Have a lunch here. From here two hours panoramic views walking to the Dhampus (1830m). and an hour down to Phedi. From Phedi, we take 30 minutes drive to Pokhara. Overnight hotel in Pokhara.


  • DAY 07: Travel back to Kathmandu.

    After breakfast walk to tourist bus station with trekking guide. Then set for Kathmandu. After reach in Kathmandu, you will be taken to your hotel at Kathmandu. Have a rest. In evening you can stroll around Thamel, the major tourist destination of Kathmandu. You can do some last minute shopping of souvenirs for your family and relatives. O/n at hotel in Kathmandu.


  • DAY 08: Departure from Nepal.

    In the morning, you will be free. Afternoon we will drop you to the Kathmandu International Airport for the departure flight to home.
